Video Trimmer
Cut a video to the exact start and end time you choose.
What is the video trimmer?
The video trimmer cuts a longer recording down to the part you actually want. Load a video from your phone, tablet or computer, pick a start point and an end point, preview the segment and save it as a new file. It is ideal for removing a slow start, cutting a highlight out of a long recording, or making a short clip that fits a messaging app’s size limit.
The tool works entirely in your browser. Your video is opened locally and never sent to a server, which makes it a good choice for family videos, work meetings and anything else you would rather keep private.
How to trim a video
- Drop a video file onto the upload area or click it to choose one.
- Drag the Start and End sliders, or type exact times in seconds.
- Play the video and use Set start from current time or Set end from current time to mark a precise moment.
- Press Preview segment to watch only the part you selected.
- Press Export clip, wait for the progress bar to finish, then download the result.
Features
- Frame-accurate controls with sliders, number fields and buttons that use the current playback position.
- Live clip length so you always know how long the result will be.
- Sound included: the audio is captured with the Web Audio API and recorded with the picture.
- Progress bar and Cancel button so you stay in control during export.
- Private: no upload, no account and no watermark.
How the export works and what format you get
Browsers cannot cut a video file directly without a large video library, so this tool plays the selected part and records it with the browser’s built-in MediaRecorder. That means the export runs in real time: a 30 second clip takes about 30 seconds. Keep the tab open and visible while it works, because browsers slow down hidden tabs.
The output is MP4 (H.264) in browsers that can record MP4, such as recent Safari and Chrome versions, and WebM in others, such as Firefox. The note above the tool tells you which format your browser will produce. WebM plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, VLC and most modern editors.
Tips for the best result
Close other heavy tabs while exporting so the recording stays smooth. Trimming re-encodes the video, so start from the best quality source you have. If you need a smaller file after trimming, run the clip through the Video Compressor and choose a lower resolution.
Common reasons to trim a video
People trim videos to remove the moment they fumbled with the record button, to cut a long gameplay session down to the best play, to pull one answer out of a recorded interview, or to fit a clip into the length limit of a status update or story. Shorter clips are also faster to send and easier for viewers to finish.
Frequently asked questions
Why does exporting take as long as the clip?
The tool records the selected part while it plays, using the browser's MediaRecorder. This avoids uploading your video but means the export runs in real time.
What format is the trimmed video?
MP4 in browsers that support recording MP4, otherwise WebM. The note above the tool shows the format your browser will use.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The video is opened and processed on your own device and is never sent to our server.
Which files can I open?
Any video your browser can play. MP4 with H.264 and WebM work almost everywhere. Some MOV, MKV or AVI files use codecs that browsers cannot play.
