Open Graph Generator
Create Open Graph and X card tags with a live share preview.
What are Open Graph tags?
When someone shares a link on Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord or X, the app builds a preview card with a picture, a title and a short description. It gets that information from Open Graph meta tags in the page head, such as og:title and og:image. X also reads its own twitter:card tags. Without them, platforms guess, and the result is often a missing image or the wrong text. Good social tags make shared links look professional and earn more clicks.
How to generate Open Graph tags
- Enter the title and description you want people to see when the page is shared.
- Add the page URL and the full URL of a share image, ideally 1200 by 630 pixels.
- Describe the image with alt text, and choose the content type such as website or article.
- Fill in your site name, locale and X handles if you have them.
- Check the live preview card and fix any warnings.
- Copy the HTML and paste it into the head section of your page.
Tags included
- og:type, og:title, og:description and og:url for the basic card.
- og:image and og:image:alt for the picture and its accessible description.
- og:site_name and og:locale for your brand name and language.
- twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description and twitter:image for X.
- twitter:site and twitter:creator to credit your brand and author accounts.
Choosing a good share image
Use an image of 1200 by 630 pixels, a 1.91 to 1 ratio that works on almost every network. Keep important text and faces near the centre, because some apps crop the edges or show a square version. Use JPG or PNG under a few megabytes, and always give the full absolute URL starting with https://, because relative paths do not work in Open Graph. The preview loads your image straight from the address you enter, so you can see the crop before you publish.
Testing and updating shared links
Social platforms cache link previews. After you add or change tags, use the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector to fetch a fresh copy. If you use WordPress with an SEO plugin, it may already output Open Graph tags; in that case fill in the plugin’s social fields instead of adding a second set, because duplicate tags can confuse platforms.
Frequently asked questions
What size should an Open Graph image be?
1200 by 630 pixels is the most widely recommended size. It displays well on Facebook, LinkedIn, X and messaging apps.
Why does Facebook still show my old image?
Facebook caches previews. Open the Facebook Sharing Debugger, enter your URL and click Scrape Again to refresh it.
Does the preview send my data anywhere?
The tags are built in your browser. The only request is the preview loading your image from the image URL you enter, and you can turn that off with the checkbox.
