A free screen recorder that runs in your browser

This screen recorder captures your entire screen, a single application window or one browser tab and saves it as a video file. There is nothing to install, no account and no watermark. It is handy for quick tutorials, bug reports, recording a presentation, or sending a colleague a short walkthrough instead of a long email.

How to record your screen

  1. Choose whether to include tab or system audio and your microphone.
  2. Pick 30 or 60 frames per second. 60 looks smoother for motion but makes bigger files.
  3. Press Start recording and choose what to share in the browser’s picker.
  4. Use Pause and Resume to skip parts you do not want.
  5. Press Stop, or the browser’s own Stop sharing button, when you are done.
  6. Watch the preview and press Download to save the video.

Features

  • Screen, window or tab capture using your browser’s secure sharing picker.
  • Audio mixing: tab or system sound and your microphone are combined into one track.
  • Pause and resume with a running timer.
  • Instant preview before you download.
  • Private: the recording is kept in your browser’s memory and never uploaded.

Browser support and audio

Screen recording uses the getDisplayMedia feature that desktop browsers provide. It works in current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS. Phones and tablets, including iPhone, iPad and most Android browsers, do not allow websites to record the screen, so the tool shows a note instead. On those devices, use the screen recorder built into the system.

Audio support varies. Chrome and Edge can share the sound of a tab, and on Windows and ChromeOS the whole system. Firefox and Safari currently share video only, but your microphone can still be added. If audio was requested but not shared, the tool tells you.

Output format

The video is saved as MP4 in browsers that can record MP4 and as WebM in others. The note in the tool shows which one you will get. WebM plays in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and VLC, and can be uploaded to YouTube directly.

Tips

Share a single window or tab instead of the whole screen to avoid showing notifications. Close apps that may pop up private messages before you start. For tutorials with small text, use 30 fps and a large browser zoom.

Privacy

Your browser always asks before anything is shared and shows a clear indicator while recording. The video is never uploaded; it lives in the page until you download it.

Frequently asked questions

Can I record my screen on a phone?

Not with a website. Mobile browsers do not offer screen capture to web pages. Use your phone's built-in screen recorder instead.

Why is there no sound in my recording?

The browser decides whether audio can be shared. In Chrome and Edge, tick the share audio option in the picker. Firefox and Safari do not share system audio, but the microphone option works.

Is there a time limit?

There is no fixed limit. The recording is held in memory, so very long recordings may be limited by your device's free memory.

Is my recording uploaded?

No. It stays in your browser until you download it.
