Fix sideways and upside down pages

Scanners and phone apps do not always get the orientation right. A landscape table might come out sideways, or one page of a scan might be upside down. The Rotate PDF tool shows every page as a thumbnail, lets you turn the pages that need it and saves the result permanently, so the file opens the right way up for everyone.

How to rotate a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box above or click it to choose one.
  2. Click a page preview to turn it 90 degrees clockwise, or use the arrow buttons under each page to turn it either way.
  3. To turn the whole document, choose an angle under Rotate all pages and click Apply to all.
  4. Click Reset if you want to undo every change.
  5. Click Save rotated PDF to download the corrected file.

Features

  • Per page or all pages: fix one stray page or the whole file in one go.
  • 90, 180 and 270 degrees, clockwise and counter-clockwise.
  • Live previews that turn as you click, with the angle shown under each page.
  • Lossless: the tool changes the page rotation setting, so text and images are not re-compressed.
  • Private: your file is processed on your device and never uploaded.

How PDF rotation works

Every PDF page stores a rotation value that tells viewers how to display it. This tool adds your chosen angle to that value, which is the same thing professional PDF editors do. Because the page content itself is not redrawn, the file size stays almost the same and the text remains selectable and searchable.

Pages that are already rotated

Some PDFs already contain pages with a rotation setting. The previews show each page the way a PDF reader displays it today, and any turn you add is applied on top of that. For example, a page that already displays sideways and is turned a further 90 degrees here ends up upside down or upright, exactly as the preview shows before you save.

When to use it

Use it to straighten scanned receipts before sending them to your accountant, fix the orientation of wide spreadsheets exported to PDF, or prepare a document for printing so that every page faces the same way. Teachers often rotate scanned worksheets, and designers rotate proofs that were exported in the wrong orientation.

Tips

Viewing a PDF sideways in your reader does not save the change for others. Rotating and saving here makes the fix permanent. If some pages are not needed at all, remove them with the Delete PDF Pages tool, and use Merge PDF if you need to combine the corrected file with others.

Frequently asked questions

Is the rotation permanent?

Yes. The saved PDF stores the new orientation, so it opens the right way in any PDF reader on any device.

Does rotating reduce quality?

No. Only the page rotation setting changes. The text and images on the page are not converted or compressed.

Can I rotate just one page?

Yes. Click that page or use the arrows under it. Other pages keep their current orientation.
