Video Frame Grabber
Save any video frame as a full resolution PNG or JPG image.
Turn any moment of a video into a still image
Pausing a video and taking a screenshot gives you a small, cropped picture with player controls in the way. The Video Frame Grabber saves the exact frame at the video’s full resolution instead, so a 4K video gives you a 4K image. It is useful for picking a thumbnail, saving a photo from a family video, documenting a bug in a screen recording or studying motion frame by frame.
How to grab a frame
- Drop a video onto the upload area or click to choose one.
- Drag the Position slider, play the video, or type a time in seconds to find the moment you want.
- Choose PNG, JPG or WebP as the image format.
- Press Capture this frame and download the image.
Capture a grid of frames
To get an overview of a whole video, enter how many frames you want, from 2 to 60, and press Capture frame grid. The tool takes frames at evenly spaced times across the video and shows them as a thumbnail grid with the time of each one. Every frame can be downloaded at full resolution, and the Download contact sheet button saves all thumbnails with their times in one JPG image.
Features
- Full resolution output that matches the video’s own size.
- PNG, JPG or WebP: PNG is lossless, JPG and WebP are much smaller.
- Precise time entry down to hundredths of a second.
- File names with timestamps so frames stay in order.
- Private: frames are drawn on your device and never uploaded.
Use cases
YouTubers and course creators use frame grabs to design custom thumbnails. Sports coaches compare positions across a movement. Editors build storyboards and contact sheets to review footage quickly. Support teams capture a clean image of an error from a screen recording.
Tips
Fast motion can look blurred in a single frame because of the camera’s shutter speed. Step a little forward or back to find the sharpest one. If the image looks too dark or too bright, the source video is the limit, but you can adjust it afterwards in any photo editor.
PNG, JPG or WebP?
Choose PNG when you want the cleanest possible copy for editing or printing, as it keeps every pixel exactly as decoded. JPG makes much smaller files and is perfect for sharing on social media or in documents. WebP is smaller still at similar quality and works in all current browsers, but some older desktop apps cannot open it. Frames from the grid are saved in whichever format is selected when you capture them.
Frequently asked questions
What resolution are the saved frames?
The same as the video. A 1920 x 1080 video gives 1920 x 1080 images. Grid thumbnails on screen are smaller, but their downloads are full size.
Can I choose the exact frame?
Yes. Type a time in seconds with two decimals, or use the slider and the video controls. The browser shows the frame nearest to that time.
Is my video uploaded?
No. The frames are captured in your browser and the video stays on your device.
