Record webcam video without installing anything
The webcam recorder turns your browser into a simple camera app. Record a video message, a quick product demo, a self introduction for a job application or a test of your camera and microphone before an important call. You can also take still photos. It works with laptop webcams, external USB cameras and the front or back camera of phones and tablets.
How to record from your webcam
- Press Start camera and allow camera and microphone access when the browser asks.
- Choose a different camera, microphone or resolution from the menus if you have more than one.
- Press Record to start and Stop recording when you are done.
- Watch the preview and press Download to save the video.
- Press Take photo at any time to save a still image as PNG.

About mirroring
Most video call apps show you a mirrored image because it feels more natural. The mirror option flips the live preview and any photos you take. Recordings keep the true, unmirrored orientation so writing and logos read correctly for the people who watch them. Turn mirroring off if you want the photo to match the recording.
Output format and browser support
Videos are saved as MP4 in browsers that can record MP4 and as WebM in others, as shown in the note under the controls. The camera works in all modern browsers on desktop and mobile, but only on secure https pages. If your browser has no camera access at all, the tool shows a friendly note instead of failing.
Tips for better webcam video
Face a window or a lamp so light falls on your face rather than behind you. Place the camera at eye level. Use a headset microphone if your room echoes. Record a five second test first to check sound levels before recording a long message.
Privacy
The camera only turns on when you press Start camera, and your browser shows its own indicator while it is in use. Press Stop camera to switch it off. Nothing is streamed or uploaded: recordings and photos exist only in this page until you download them, and they disappear when you close the tab.

Why are no camera names shown?
Browsers only reveal device names after you allow camera access. Start the camera once and the menus fill with your devices.
Is the recording mirrored?
No. Only the preview and photos are mirrored when the option is on. Recordings keep the true orientation.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Current mobile browsers allow camera access on secure pages. You can pick the front or back camera from the Camera menu.
Is my video sent anywhere?
No. The camera feed is recorded in your browser and is never uploaded.
