Split PDF
Extract page ranges or save every page of a PDF as its own file.
What does a PDF splitter do?
A PDF splitter takes one PDF and creates smaller PDFs from it. You might need only chapter three of a long report, the signed page of a contract, or each invoice from a monthly statement as a separate file. This tool reads your PDF, shows how many pages it has and builds new files from exactly the pages you ask for.
How to split a PDF
- Drop a PDF onto the box above or click it to choose a file. The page count and file size appear straight away.
- Choose a split mode: extract ranges into one PDF, save each range as a separate PDF, or save every page as a separate PDF.
- For the range modes, type the pages you want, for example
1-3,5,8-10. Use8-to mean page 8 to the end. - Click Split PDF. A single result downloads at once. Several results appear as a list with a Download button for each file and a Download all button.
Split modes explained
- Extract page ranges into one PDF collects all the pages you list into one new document, in the order you typed them. This is the quickest way to pull a few pages out of a long file.
- Each range as a separate PDF creates one file per range. Typing
1-4,5-9,10-gives you three files. - Every page as a separate PDF creates one single page file for each page, named with its page number.
Everyday uses
Accountants split bank statements so that each month is filed on its own. Teachers extract one worksheet from a large workbook to share with a class. Job applicants pull the relevant pages from a portfolio. People applying for visas or loans often have to upload each document separately, and a splitter turns one big scan into the separate files a website asks for.
Good to know
The new files are made by copying pages, so text stays sharp and searchable and links inside a page keep working. A range written backwards, such as 5-3, produces pages 5, 4 and 3 in that order, which is a handy way to reverse a section. When you use Download all, your browser may ask for permission to download several files; allow it once and the files arrive one after another.
All processing takes place on your own device. Your PDF is not uploaded, which keeps confidential documents private and makes the tool fast even on slow connections.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write page ranges?
Separate pages and ranges with commas, for example 1-3,5,8-10. A range with no end, such as 8-, runs to the last page.
Why did only some of my downloads arrive?
Browsers sometimes block several downloads from one page. Allow multiple downloads when your browser asks, or use the Download button next to each file.
Does splitting change the quality of the pages?
No. Pages are copied into the new files exactly as they are, so text and images keep their original quality.
Can I split a password protected PDF?
No. Encrypted PDFs must first be unlocked in a PDF reader and saved without a password.
